In October 2025, Côte d’Ivoire submitted its updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0), setting a target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 33% by 2035 relative to a business-as-usual scenario — a target that could reach 74% with international support.

The country’s gross emissions stood at 32.9 MtCO2e in 2023, rising to 58.9 Mt when accounting for land use and deforestation — a sector that alone represents 44% of national emissions. Despite a marginal contribution to global emissions (0.1%), Côte d’Ivoire has set concrete sectoral targets: 46% renewable energy by 2035 (up from 38% in 2023), forest cover increased from 11% to 20% by 2040, and clean cooking access for two-thirds of households by 2030.

These ambitions represent an estimated investment need of between $10.6 billion and $48.2 billion, depending on the level of international support mobilized — a strong signal for all energy sector and climate finance stakeholders present in the sub-region.

At Transenergies, the Carbon & Climate Change division supports this transition through climate finance advisory, carbon credit generation, and MRV (measurement, reporting, verification) monitoring — levers directly aligned with the national priorities identified in the NDC 3.0.
